The 7-Minute Workout

Feel like there’s never enough time during the day to work out? Science is catching up to the working population’s demand for shorter, more effective workouts. Though traditional protocols are still effective, they are not always realistic for time-conscious adults. Now, all you need for an effective, heart pumping work out is 7 minutes, a chair, and a wall.

The 7-minute workout enables people to exercise within their busy schedules. This workout is high-intensity circuit training (HICT) that provides many of the fitness benefits of prolonged endurance training but in much less time,” says Chris Jordan, the director of exercise physiology at the Human Performance Institute. Each 7-minute workout packs in 12 activities to complete in 30-second intervals with brief 10-second periods of rest. This circuit can be repeated depending on the time that is available to create a 14 or 21-minute workout.

This type of training continues to grow in popularity because it is a fast and efficient way to lose excess body fat and promote strength development. It is easily adaptable to many skill and fitness levels as well. To get the fat burning and true cardio benefits, people need to push themselves, just as the name “high-intensity” suggests.

Bottom Line: Research demonstrates the benefits of a wide variety of exercises, and this 7-minute workout can be used to diversify an ever-growing list of options for the busy professional. If this workout sounds appealing to your lifestyle, or if you would like to add the 7-minute workout to your own pre-existing workout routine, follow the link here or download the app on your Android or iPhone.
